Gara Bridge Campsite is a shortish drive from the beautiful quiet sandy beaches of South Devon.

This is one of our very good friends in Edinburgh visiting us... in a galaxy far, far away!

So where do I begin? Right now, it's hard to imagine the carefree, fancy-free freedom that radiates from this. But that's exactly what this holiday snap did, with classic bare feet on sand (of course). It reminded me of a time when nothing else mattered, when Jen had switched into holiday mode the moment she landed on our doorstep.

I can almost feel that relaxing, calming, zen-like vibe that I love when on holiday!

Serious nostalgia and longing is setting in... I can’t wait to give you a big hug Jen!

Working the kids hard!

The kids love the beach, and unsurprisingly there is never procrastination when it comes to a day trip to the beach. It is like the best entertaining play park ever! There are so many beaches to choose from, and we have a top 5 list depending on the season (and where the crowds are!).

You know, I read on the Visit South Devon website https://www.visitsouthdevon.co.uk ‘that with over 120 miles of stunning coastline running from Seaton to Plymouth, South Devon has over 50 beaches waiting to be explored and enjoyed.' Hmm... now I’m beginning to think that we’ve only touched the surface, and perhaps our go-to’s need mixed up a bit!

Beautiful Bigbury

I like this beach and depending on the mood we even hit this in Summer. It’s such a vast, ever-expanding beach if you get the tide right, that even in the midst of Summer, it doesn’t feel invaded!

I have similar thoughts about Bantham (renowned amongst the surfers) - it’s like the brother of Bigbury, and if you time it well, you can walk from one to the other, with no shoes on and toes wriggling in the sand!

Both beaches are humungous when the tide is out and they seem to become one...

Pull me!

But if you asked us our what our #1 beach is, then we love Wonwell (I’ll get in trouble for sharing this!). It’s simply beautiful ...it’s small, quiet and the perfect escape.

When the tide is out, the estuary flows out to sea becomes like a lazy river - the kids love it!

Across from the estuary are the fabulous Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches on Flete Estate (we usually head to Coastguards with our dog Dougie). There’s an amazing seafood restaurant, cafe and takeaway called, School House, that sits on the top too. It’s a great hangout, pit-stop!

Aymer Cove is another (secret) calming escape.

And finally for this post... here is a glance at the never-ending beach at Strete... I found this video I took of Maisie, while we there last Summer.

I feel like I’ve only just started, as I’ve left out so many more nearby beaches that we love and deserve a feature. Next time! We are very lucky to be a campsite near all the beaches...

Sending warm sunny thoughts

Jenny

P.S. this is our Plan B if we can't get to the beach...
